Grandpa
Today
a life came to end
full-term
matured
unexpected
none the less
A life
where joy and pain
work and rest
went hand in hand
Marriage
and children
wife and grandkids
gave his ball
a lot of spin
as the end neared
He lived alone
and raised corn
and blueberries
and worked with wood
Beautiful furniture
for posterity
chef d’oeuvres
of maturity
And if one day
one of those children
grown old and wise in turn
will make their own
mark on the world
carved in wood
they will remember him
