🌹 From Your Valentine
A Poem in the Voice of Saint Valentine
From iron bars and lantern’s glow,
Where shadows breathe and cold winds blow,
I write with chains upon my hand,
Yet freer far than Rome’s command.
They say that love must bow to might,
That swords decide what hearts make right.
But I have seen a gentler flame
Outshine the pride of Caesar’s name.
In whispered rooms, by candle’s grace,
Two trembling souls would stand face to face.
No gold, no crown, no grand decree—
Only vows of fidelity.
I blessed their hands; I heard their plea.
“For love is sacred—keep us free.”
And though the edict thundered loud,
Their promise rose above the crowd.
O Claudius, you feared their ties,
Thought single hearts made stronger allies.
Yet what is strength without devotion?
A restless sea without an ocean.
So here I stand, condemned by law,
For witnessing what heaven saw:
That love, once sealed in faithful breath,
Is stronger still than threat of death.
Within this cell, a child once came—
Her sight was dark, her hope the same.
We spoke of light no night can sever;
She smiled… and saw the dawn forever.
Now dawn approaches once again—
Not Rome’s, but one beyond all pain.
The sword is near. I do not flee.
For Love Himself has first loved me.
Let roses bloom where blood is shed.
Let vows outlive the words I’ve said.
Let every age and heart entwine
In courage born of the Divine.
And if you hold this note I send,
Remember: love will never end.
Not iron chain nor tyrant’s line
Can silence—
From your Valentine. 🌹

Who Was Saint Valentine?
Ah, Saint Valentine – the man, the myth, the legend! Born in the Roman Empire around 270 AD, this fellow wasn’t just a pretty face. Valentine was a priest who believed in love so much that he defied the emperor’s oppressive laws which prohibited young men from marrying. Apparently, the emperor thought single men made better soldiers! But Valentine had a different plan; he took it upon himself to perform secret weddings for young couples in love.
His Works? Spreading Love Through the Ages
Valentine’s acts of courage weren’t limited to his romantic escapades. He also cared for the sick and imprisoned, showing that his heart was as big as his bravery. Unfortunately, his dedication got him into hot water when he was caught and subsequently executed around 269 AD. Who knew that a commitment to love could be so dangerous? In a funny twist of fate, the day of his martyrdom became a celebration of love and affection – Valentine’s Day! Who said romance was dead?
